Obituary
Vivian Arlene Proffitt Gearlds, 85, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She was born October 23, 1932 in Monroe County, Kentucky to the late Claude Taylor Proffitt and Gladys Smith Proffitt. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Christ. She was baptized in 1948, she loved walking, playing cards and participated in the ladies club at the church. She was united in marriage in July 8, 1950 to William "Stack" Gearlds who proceeded her in death. She is survived by six children: Diana Jewel of Tompkinsville, Gary Gearlds of Mt. Hermon, Michael Gearlds and wife Linda of Lafayette, TN, Kevin Gearlds of Tompkinsville, Denise Long and husband Dennis of Lewisport, KY, and Debbie Murray and husband Charles of Gamaliel. Two brothers: Glen Proffitt of Tompkinsville, Ezra Proffitt and wife Bernetta of Decatur, AL, one sister: Maerene Bartley of Tompkinsville, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephewsIn addition to her parents and husband she was proceeded in death by one sister Ilene Proffitt, four brothers: Rex, Louis, Wendell and Evans Proffitt.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn.Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and after 7:30 AM on Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
