Mr. Veachel Marrs Harlan, age 85, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Monroe County Medical Center. Veachel was born in the Harlan’s Crossroads Community on March 2, 1939, a son of the late Ray and Della (Gillenwater) Harlan. He was a 1959 graduate of Tompkinsville High School. He married Brenda Bartley on December 26, 1959, and they made their home in Tompkinsville. Veachel was a member and served as an Elder at Mt. Gilead Church of Christ from 1977 until his passing. He was a lineman for Tri-County Electric for thirty-four years and served as City Councilman, and Mayor of Tompkinsville from 1990-1994. He was a member of Tompkinsville Lions Club and sat on the Board of Tennessee Bible College and the Board for Tri-County Electric.
He is survived by four sons; Tony Harlan and wife Dana of Tompkinsville, Chris Harlan and wife Susie of Summer Shade, Brad Harlan and wife Angie, and Jason Harlan and Emily of Tompkinsville. One sister, Mary Pearl Clements, two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Harlan, and Janice Harlan, along with six grandchildren; Daniel Harlan and wife Krista, Cecilee Ennis and husband Travis, Justin Harlan and wife Kelsey, Josh Harlan and wife Megan, Hannah Harlan, and Hollie Harlan, nine great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Harlan, and three brothers, Eugene Harlan, Sam Maxie “Mack” Harlan, and John Harlan.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Mt. Gilead Church of Christ with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Johnny Kelton and Tim McHenry will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, and on Saturday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 at the church.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Lodge or to Stateline Christian Camp in memory of Veachel.
