Obituary
Samuel Leslie Carter, 86, of Tompkinsville passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.He was born May 22, 1930 in Monroe County, KY to the late Joe Harrison Carter and Mae Walden Carter Clark. He was a member of Rockbridge Missionary Baptist Church, a retired teacher and principal for Monroe County Board of Education, a farmer, member of Monroe County Retired Teachers, a Korean Army Veteran and a member of the VFW. He was united in marriage on September 5, 1954 to Dixie Belle Butler Carter who preceded him in death on June 19, 2011.He is survived by four daughters: Dr. Brenda Walden and husband Dr. Gary, Linda Cooper and husband Jim all of Bowling Green, Leslie Kay Miles and husband Brett of Murray and Loretta Stephens and husband Clifford of Tompkinsville, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother: Dr. Bruce Carter.Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 6 at 1:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow.Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday and after 8:00 AM on Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.Memorials are suggested to Rockbridge Baptist Church, Monroe County retired Teachers Scholarship or WMU Foundation.
