Mr. Robert Eugene Birch, age 94, of The Persimmon Community of Monroe County, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Robert was born on January 26, 1929, a son of the late Cuthbert and Ada Mae (Belcher) Birch. He proudly served in The United States Army, and after his military service, he went to Michigan to work for General Motors, where he met his wife Mary Edith Gooch, they were married on August 25, 1954, and made their home in the Persimmon Community, where Robert owned and operated Birch’s Service Station, and Birch’s Lime Service for over sixty years in addition to farming. Robert was a member of Skaggs Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed every aspect of work, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Kathy Page and husband Jason, Kaye Pitcock and husband David, of Persimmon, Connie Dubree and husband Keith of Glasgow, and Tena Birch, of Persimmon. One sister, Hazel Shelly, of Fort Myers, Florida, Eight grandchildren, Todd (Jaime) Page, Amy (Allen) Jones, Brookie (Chris) Mullins, Christie (Kirk) Biggerstaff, Christopher (Amber) Pitcock, Brian (Lolita) Dubree, Bradley (Jodi) Dubree, and Austin Birch. Fourteen great-grandchildren, Mason (Gracie) Page, Millie (Jackson) Page, Maclane Page, Ellie Jones, Asa Jones, Addison, Ava, Adlee Mullins, Clayton, Campbell, and Connor Biggerstaff, Gracie Pitcock, Joseph Chloe, and Jase Dubree, with Eden Monroe to be born soon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Edith (Gooch) Birch, three brothers, Benton, Herbert, and Ralph Birch, two sisters; Chol White, and Beatrice Jenkins, one granddaughter, Lorie Page, and four greatgrandchildren; Jade Dubree, Cullen Biggerstaff, Emma Pitcock, and John Luke Pitcock.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in The Skaggs Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning after 7:00 a.m. until time for services at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Spoonbill Foundation for PKAN Disease in memory of John Luke Pitcock, and in honor of Gracie Pitcock.
