Kenneth Dean Bartley

Obituary Kenneth Dean Bartley, 87 of Tompkinsville passed away on Thursday June 9, 2016 at home with his family by his side. Born November 19, 1928 in Williamsburg Kentucky, he was preceded in death by his parents Shadrack and Emma Webb Bartley; brothers Hansford Turner and Ruel Williams. Upon graduating from Tompkinsville High School in 1946, he attended Lindsey Wilson College until joining the Kentucky National Guard in 1948. He served in battery A of the 623rd FA BN, being deployed to Korea until his discharge in 1952. While serving in Korea, he earned the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon completion of military service, he attended Western Kentucky State College receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. In 1955 He attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee receiving a Master's degree in Education Supervision and Administration. He taught in the Monroe County School System, beginning in various one room schools, including Mt. Zion and Slickrock. He concluded his career as an educator at Tompkinsville High School. He was a business owner and was employed as Personnel Manager at Belden Cable and Wire Corporation in Tompkinsville. Always interested in community improvement, he spent a lifetime promoting Tompkinsville and Monroe County. He was a member of the Tompkinsville Chamber of Commerce, Tompkinsville Lyons Club, The Monroe County Soil Conservation Supervisors Board, The Monroe County Industrial Development Organization and served one term on the Tompkinsville City Council. He was awarded the Kentucky Industrial Development Corporation's Man of the Year award in 1979 and received the Tompkinsville- Monroe County Chamber of Commerce's Lifetime Service Award in 2003. He was dedicated to bringing industry and economic growth to his community.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eddie Rose Cherry Bartley; son Phil Bartley and his wife Sharon; grandson Thomas Bartley and his wife Whitney; granddaughter Leah Bartley and great grandson Gannon Thomas Bartley. He is also survived by a special niece; Cherry Ann Farnette, whom he thought of as his own daughter and her family. He was a man who loved his family, was proud of them and put them first in all aspects of his life. He was a member of the Mount Gilead Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and field trialing beagles. An avid Kentucky basketball fan, he never missed a game of "The Wildcats". He had many friends whom he enjoyed and cherished.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Sunday June 12, 2016 at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial in the Fitzgerald Cemetery, Celina Tennessee, Military rites will be performed at graveside by Veterans Honor Guard of Cookeville. Visitation will be Saturday June 11, 2016 from 1:30 pm to 8:00 pm and Sunday after 8:00 AM until time of service.
