Violet June (Thomas) Collins, age 85, of Gamaliel, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Monroe County Medical Center surrounded by her children. She was born in Monroe County on February 28, 1938, the daughter of the late Jack and Neva (Wheat) Thomas. June was a longtime factory worker in Monroe County and the owner of Collins Barbeque until she retired. She enjoyed her flowers and her daily walks. She married Carman Collins on August 7, 1954.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl Stinson and husband Kerry of Gamaliel, Murrell Collins and his wife Terri of Gamaliel and Rita Collins and fiance Rolando Statemen of Lancaster; one granddaughter Teresa (Stinson) Grizzell and husband Tony of Danville; four grandsons, Jake Stinson and wife Kendra of Fountain Run, Chase Collins and wife Amber of Edmonton, Lincoln Gay of Lexington and Colin Gay of Mt. Sterling; seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Grizzell of Danville, Heather (Grizzell) Hart and husband Hunter of Richmond, and Blake & Jaxon Collins of Edmonton Jocelyn Stinson of Glasgow, Kensley & Kaleb Stinson of Fountain Run; one great-great-grandson, Ezrah Hart of Richmond; two sisters, Ruth Stinson of Florida and Joyce Denham and husband Leon of Louisville; two brothers, Travis Thomas and wife Nelda and Ralph Thomas; along with a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carman Collins; one brother, Jimmy Thomas; one sister, Nadine (Thomas) Turner; one great-great-grandson, Enoch Hart.
June was so blessed to have such excellent care from her loving caregivers this past year, Gayle, Becky, Cathy, Myra, Claudine, Deloris, and Danetta, you will always hold a special place in June’s family hearts for helping them take care of her at home.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel with burial in the Gamaliel Cemetery. Bro. Billy Michael Stinson will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, after 9:00 a.m. until the time for the services at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers: Jake Stinson, Chase Collins, Lincoln Gay, Colin Gay, Patrick Grizzell, Tony Grizzell, and Kaleb Stinson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of June may be made to the Monroe County Backpack Program or the Gamaliel Cemetery and can be made at the funeral home.
Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel considers it an honor to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Collins and her family during this time.
