John Kelly Murphy

Mr. John Kelly Murphy, age 83, of Hestand, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022, surrounded by family at The Monroe County Medical Center.  John Kelly was born on August 4, 1939, a son of the late Denton and Mary Doyle (Baxter) Murphy. He married Martha Sue Copas on December 23, 1961.  After twenty-seven years, John Kelly retired from the Kentucky Department of Social Services in 2001.  He proudly served in The Army National Guard and was a faithful member of Germany Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife of sixty years, Martha Sue, he is survived by two sons; Barry Murphy and his wife Rita, and Randy Murphy and his wife Jennifer all of Tompkinsville, a sister, JoNell Carter of Louisville, Kentucky, five grandsons; Trenton Murphy and wife Ashley of Ocala, Florida, Trevor Murphy of Hudson, Florida, Brooks Murphy and wife Haley, Sawyer and Braden Murphy, step-grandson, Grayson Harlan and wife Kelsey. Six great-grandchildren, three step-greatgrandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Gage Colby Murphy, and one brother-in-law, Bruce Carter.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Baxter Cemetery. Tim McHenry, and Alan Keele will officiate the services.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday Morning from 8:00 until time for services at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to Baxter Cemetery in honor of John Kelly, those may be made at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Brooks, Brayden, Sawyer, Trenton, Trevor Murphy, and Grayson Harlan.
