Jean (Comer) Proffitt

Jean Comer Proffitt, formerly of Fountain Run, Kentucky, died February 22, 2025, in Louisville, Nebraska surrounded by family. She lived an amazing 99 years. She was one of five children born to O.E. and Lillian Brooks Comer on December 7, 1925. She was a 1943 graduate of Gamaliel High School. On October 15, 1946, she married Ralph Proffitt and this union lasted 61 years. They made their home in Fountain Run, Kentucky, where they raised their only daughter, Neika. They later moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky. 

Jean was a wonderful homemaker, who loved to bake, crochet and quilt. She found much enjoyment in being a substitute teacher, particularly with the elementary students. She was very devoted to her family including her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Gamaliel and Flippin Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Neika (Barry) Coughlin, granddaughters Kaitlin (Chase) Bradbury, Emily Coughlin (Nate Skwarek), Dana (Trent) Volenec, and Krista (Joe) Seiler. She was blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, parents, siblings/in-laws: Jewell and Harry Turner, Harlin and Pauline Comer, O.E. and Gerry Comer, and Martha and Chester Colson; and nephews Larry Comer and James Richardson Comer.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from Flippin Church of Christ, with burial to follow in the Neal Cemetery. Fowler Ross will officiate the service.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, after 9:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 a.m. at Flippin Church of Christ.

Pallbearers: Marc Colson, Chad Comer, Mike Green, Scott Proffitt, Chase Bradbury, Nate Skwarek, and Jason Colson

Honorary Pallbearer: Johnny Montgomery

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Neal Cemetery or the American Heart Association.
