Jean Crowe

Mrs. Jean Crowe, age 76, of Gamaliel, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the University of Louisville Hospital, with her daughter and pastor by her side. Jean was born in Glasgow on May 6, 1948, a daughter of the late Raymond and Hazel (Smith) Grizzle. She spent her early life in Glasgow, Kentucky, attending churches where her father had pastored in Barren County for many years. She attended Indian Creek Baptist Church in earlier times, and later, when her family moved from Flippin to Gamaliel, she attended Gamaliel Baptist Church, where she is a member. As a child, she questioned her salvation and prayed beneath the old tree at her home. Her father nicknamed her Doubting Thomas because of her constant questioning about the subject. God soon answered her prayer for a sign in the form of a song. On Sunday, when she walked in, they played When the Roll is Called Up Yonder. She knew she had heard him tell her where she would be when this life ended. Jean went to see all of her loved ones in Heaven, where we will all take the journey to meet our Heavenly Father in our carefree eternal home. Jean spent twenty years serving as a Teacher’s Assistant with the Monroe County Board of Education. She claimed all of the children that she came into contact with as her own. Her daughter's yearly stacked collection of backpacks, clothing, Easter baskets, and toys became donated gifts to children in need at the school and community. Following her daughter to school each day soon turned into a full-time position, first at Fountain Run Elementary School, later at Gamaliel Elementary School and Tompkinsville Elementary School.

She is survived by a daughter, Heather Crowe of Gamaliel, a sister Janet Mitchell of Glasgow, and cousins Diane, Sandy, and Phillip. She is survived by the many children she worked with in the Monroe County School System. Several cousins and extended family also survive.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Allen Crowe, canine granddaughter, Mitzi Marie Crowe, and one uncle, Kenneth Grizzle.
