Mr. J.E. Spear, Jr., age 79, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Monroe County Medical Center, surrounded by his family. J.E. was born in Hestand, Kentucky on July 2, 1945, a son of the late J.E. Spear, Sr. and Margaret Nelline (Frost) Spear. He graduated from Gamaliel High School, Class of 1963. He married Glaydelle Keys on June 27, 1964, and was also baptized at Corinth Church of Christ in 1964. J.E. retired from Honest Abe Log Homes and Happy Trucking after over twenty years, after retirement he partnered with Daniel York and formed J & D Logging. He had a love for his family like none other than Glaydelle. When he wasn’t on the farm, J.E. enjoyed going on trips, traveling with his family, picking the guitar, dancing, and singing with his wife and girls. J. E. will be remembered for his outgoing personality and the kind smile he had for everyone he met.
J.E. is survived by his wife of sixty years, Glaydelle (Keys) Spear, and three daughters; Tonya Hassell and husband Gary, of Edmonton, Tamara Walden and husband Randy, of Tompkinsville, and Teresa Sheffield and husband Jonathan, of Gamaliel. Eight grandchildren; Bridget Crowe, Hayden Froedge, Tucker England, Tate Sheffield, Tahlia Sheffield, Cheyenne Garmon, Ashtyn Williams, and Olivia Hodges. Eighteen great-grandchildren; Addilyn, Brynn, Copelyn, Beckett, Hadley, Banks, Upton, Raylee, Maelyn, Addi, Letty, Remi, Cutler, Ellory, Jayden, Ryan, Jordan, And Gracie, along with one great-grandchild, Alliah; three brothers, Steve Spear, Tony Spear and wife Karen, Chris Spear and wife Tammy, and two sisters, Charline Thompson, and Anita Brummett also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Joe Spear and Bobby Spear, and one sister, Peggy Cherry.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Jason Dodson will officiate the service.
Visitation with family will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, after 2:00 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home, and again on Monday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers: Tucker England, Tate Sheffield, Hayden Froedge, Chris Spear, Tony Spear, and Jackie Cherry.
Honorary Casket Bearers: Jonathan Sheffield, Gary Hassell and Randy Walden
