Janice Clarkson Compton

Mrs. Janice Elaine Clarkson Compton, (AKA, Nana and Lulu) age 72, of Gamaliel, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024.  Janice was born in Monroe County, on February 9, 1952, to the late Newman C. and Roxie (Brooks) Clarkson.  On July 7, 1976, she married Gary Edward Compton, who preceded her in death on August 18, 2023.  Janice was a 1970 graduate of Gamaliel High School, after school, she worked at Crowe's General Sales, Monroe County Sherrif's Office, Kentucky Homeplace, Travis Oil and Ready Mix, and Combo Motors before she and Gary opened the Dairy Bar in Gamaliel in 1997, and Bob's House in 2015, where she worked long hours and made many friends who will remember her fondly.  Janice was saved at the age of 16 at the Beautiful Home Missionary Baptist Church where she was still a member.

She is survived by a son, Cody Compton, and his wife Rachel; step-daughter, Tracy Downing of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Mellie and Wakes Compton; Step-grandson Ty Downing and wife Addison, and two step-great-grandchildren, Elaina and Teddy Downing.  She is also survived by one sister, Phinell Birge, three brothers, Marvin, Keith, and Norman Clarkson and wife Susan; two sisters-in-law, Margie, and Connie Clarkson, along with a multitude of special nieces and nephews, and special great-nieces and nephews also survive and cousins whom she loved dearly also survive. 

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Norvel Clarkson, and one sister, Betty Lou Keller, two sisters-in-law, Charmon Clarkson and Diane Clarkson; brothers-in-law, Bobby Birge and Dave Keller, three nephews and one niece. 

Janice will be remembered for her faith, her love of her family and grandbabies, and her kindness to others. 

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in Donaldson Cemetery in Clay County. Bro. Mark Copass, and Bro. Tim Eaton will officiate the services. 

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus of Barren River in memory of Janice.
