James Willas Short

James Willas Short

Mr. James Willas Short, age 91 of Moss, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2022, at The Palace Nursing and Rehab in Red Boiling Springs.  He was born on October 3, 1930, a son of the late Estil James and Mildred (Mabry) Short.  He married Susan Estelle White, who preceded him in death on February 9 of this year, they had been married for seventy-two years.  Willas was a cattle and tobacco farmer and always enjoyed raising a big garden.  During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army and was a member and Elder of Oak Grove Church of Christ. 

Two special nieces survive Willas; Lee Ann Short Wilbur and her husband Scott, of Greenwood, Indiana, and Leah Short Cavanagh and her husband Paul of Brownsburg, Indiana, two brothers, four sisters, and a host of other nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Estil and Mildred Short, he was preceded in death by his wife Susan Estelle White, one brother, and one sister.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.  Burial will follow in the Pitcock Cemetery in Moss, Tennessee. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 9:00 on Wednesday morning until the time for services at 11:00.  Kenny Westmoreland will officiate the service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association in memory of Willas.
