James Edward Coley

Obituary James Edward Coley, 97 of Monroe County passed away Friday February 23, 2018 at Signature Healthcare in Tompkinsville. He was born October 28, 1920 in Monroe County, Kentucky to the late Arthur James Coley and Verna Birdwell Coley. He was united in marriage on October 2, 1948 to Maerene Birch Coley who proceeded him in death on August 25, 1992. He was saved April 17, 2015 and was a member of Old Temple Hill Baptist Church and was a lifelong farmer.He served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific , including Iwo Jima, Gilbert and Marshall Islands. He also served as a deputy fire warden for nine years and in later years a seven year volunteer the for Monroe County Relay for Life.He is survived by two sons: Ed Coley and wife Rachel of Cave City and Jackie Coley of Tompkinsville, two daughters: Sue Monday and husband Roy of Tompkinsville and Shelley Botts and husband Chris of Tompkinsville. Three granddaughters: Lauren Coley, Ashley Schmucker, and Kellimae Page, one grandson Jeremy Monday and six great grandchildren: Blake, Wade, Malia, Leah, Elliot and Macy Grace. In addition to his parents and wife he is proceeded in death by two sisters: Agnes Ford and Mary Miles, three brothers; Harold, Cecil, and Jesse Coley.Funeral services will be conducted Monday February 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY with burial to follow at Skaggs Creek Cemetery in Tompkinsville following military rites by D.A.V Chapter 20 of Glasgow.Visitation will be from 4:00 PM- 8:00PM Sunday, February 25, 2018 and after 7:00 AM Monday until funeral time at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY.
