Ms. Dorothy Mae (Hale) Watson, age 91, of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Monroe County Medical Center. Dorothy was born in Tompkinsville, on February 23, 1933, to the late Avery Hale and Tommie Smith Hale. Dorothy worked at several different sewing factories throughout her life, she enjoyed gardening and canning. She was a faithful member of the Monroe Baptist Church.
She is survived by five children; William Gearlds and wife Jean, Lorraine Webb, Janice Ferguson, Tim Gearlds and wife Shelia, and Stevie Gearlds and wife Sharon all of Tompkinsville. Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Christine Thornton, of Franklin, Jane Adams, and Carolyn Adams of Tompkinsville also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Watson, a daughter, Shirley Bryant; five brothers, James, John, Eugene, Earl B., and Bill Hale; three sisters, Lois Cockriel, Ruby Muse and Nancy Pennington and the father of her children, Ervin Gearlds.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Old Mt. Herman Cemetery. Bro. Darrick Proffitt will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Mt. Herman Cemetery in honor of Dorothy. Those may be made at the Funeral Home.
