Barbara Sue Anderson Chapman passed away at home in Tompkinsville on December 7, 2023.
Barbara was born July 7, 1939 in Burkesville, Kentucky to parents Samuel and Minnie Hunt Anderson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Chapman, and her children Dena Green (Rob), Donna Thomason (Rolland), Lee Ann Chapman (Van Toornburg), and Cindy Emberton (Shayne). She had eight grandchildren: Andrew Green (Jasmine), Sarah Green, Kaitlyn Trotter (Shane), Kayla Thomason, Amy Thomason, Lydia Emberton, Leah Emberton, and Layni Emberton along with one great-grandson, Oliver Green. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Samuel, Jr., Roy Dean, and Kyle Anderson.
Barbara spent the first decade of her life in Cumberland County, then her family moved to Barren County where she attended school at Temple Hill. She married Robert Chapman on May 15, 1959 and settled in the Rockbridge community of Monroe County where they resided for sixty-four years. Barbara sewed in several of the local garment factories over the years as well as worked in food service in different locations with her finishing out her career as a cook at Joe Harrison Carter Elementary School. Through the years of raising a family and cooking for farmhands, she was also very active in working on the family farm in tobacco and raising a large garden.
She was a member of the Skaggs Creek Baptist Church. She was saved at the age of nineteen and recounted her experience of salvation many times to family and friends. In addition to raising four daughters, her salvation was her greatest accomplishment.
The visitation will be Saturday, December 9, 2023 after 5 p.m. and Sunday December 10, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday December 10 at 2 p.m. The Bartley and Sons Funeral Home is serving the family. Burial will be at Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Skaggs Creek Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Pallbearers: Robert Green, Rolland Thomason, Van Toornburg, Shayne Emberton, Andrew Green, and Shane Trotter.
Honorary Pallbearers: Larry Craig, Jim Clark, Tim Hume, Kirk Hume, Bill Anderson, and Mark Anderson.
